The Dynamic Factor portfolio is a flexible strategy that can either focus on a few sectors or spread risks across many of them, depending on the market environment. It rotates between the S&P industry sectors, style classifications and fixed-income ETFs. This quantitative and ETF asset allocation strategy attempts to beat the S&P 500 with lower volatility and lower peak-to-trough drawdowns.
Our investment team adopts a quantitative, model-driven approach to portfolio management. This disciplined, systematic process helps remove human behavioral bias and emotion from investment decisions to enhance long-term performance.
Our three-step research approach seeks downside protection and upside participation by 1) Identifying market and economic risks using fundamental and technical methods; 2) Evaluating macro asset classes that we believe are likely to outperform given those particular risks; and 3) Optimizing asset allocations based on our systematic approach.
Our team selects 2 to 10 asset class exchange traded funds from a universe of 19 possible choices that our research suggests will outperform in the given market environment. Rebalancing generally occurs monthly.
We emphasize capital preservation and manage downside risk through our systematic risk indicator and our risk-balanced approach. Positions are rotated monthly based on the risk environment, relative attractiveness of the macro asset classes, and risk weighting.
In the case of a significant stress in the market, we might sell positions in an effort to reduce risk in the portfolio.

Performance of the portfolio manager's account is calculated by Covestor on a daily time-weighted basis, including cash, dividends and earnings distributions and broker commissions. Manager returns include trades and positions that fail Covestor's trading rules, as a result, actual client returns will differ. Covestor advisory fees are simulated and applied retro-actively to present the portfolio return "net-of-fees".
Average client returns are calculated by Covestor and are composed of the average, time-weighted returns of all active client investments (some of which may contain investment restrictions) to the underlying portfolio. These daily average returns are then linked together for the timeframe presented. These returns include cash, dividends, earnings distributions, brokerage commissions and Covestor advisory fees.
All graph data is as of the end of day for the referenced period, unless otherwise specified. The investment minimum is the minimum investment required to follow a particular portfolio. The minimum amount is determined by Covestor, based on the characteristics of the underlying portfolio. It should not be considered as specific investment advice for your investment situation.
