Just In Case January 11, 2009
While I am much more bullish than bearish right now I do like to have a small SDS position from time to time just in case something happens that suddenly tanks the market. Whenever I feel the market is very overbought I like to greatly add to this position rather than go short an individual stock and sell most or all for a small profit when the market swings back down.
I agree with analysts who see the S&P stuck in a range in 2009 of 825-1025.

Addicted to the Dividend January 11, 2009
While I hate smoking and have never smoked in my life Altria carries a great dividend yield at this level (near 9%) and what appears to be a very safe dividend if there is such a thing. Altria also is very defensive and great for my portfolio as I try to ride the volatility up and down. Altria is very stable when compared to my other holdings.

This was my first and last stock bought solely on the recommendation of Jim Cramer. While I do like this stock for a long term hold under an Obama presidency, Cramer's advice to buy at $4.00 (I bought at $3.25 and averaged down at $2.55 and watched THC fall to $1.00 before it started its slow rebound) have me very cautious anytime he "blesses" a stock. I do still watch Cramer for ideas and insight into the market but rarely buy a stock he likes anymore and do my own homework now before I......
