WFR: Playing the Polysilicon Bubble April 14, 2008
The latest Forbes article profiles the rise of MEMC Electronics, a company which I held from early 2006 to early 2007 earning a triple digit return within that time. The rise was due mainly due to the surprise turnaround of its business in 2005-2006. Originally under Monsanto’s umbrella, WFR was spun off in 1959, then later bought by German utility E. ON and then sold in 2000 to TPG, a private equity house. The firm, who has owned or invested in Burger King, Ducati, J. Crew, and MGM, made......

SGP: Nearterm Oversold Hunch April 14, 2008
The recent rally with SGP was fairly inevitable given that the company needed to address to its shareholders as well as prospective ones about its next move -- ya know, the one that would ultimately decide the fate of this company that unfortunately put all of its eggs in one basket. They're proactive and committed to restructuring and while that wasn't anything less than expected, it was perfect time for long-run value investors to get in. Whether the stock continues to find buying support is......

Large price swings are typical of bearish times,......

The Buckle: Finding the Perfect Niche March 11, 2008
It's no surprise to anyone but retail isn't exactly any institution's darling sector right now. From a momentum perspective, the sector has correlated to some degree with financials, technology, and other lowlifes of the bear market. There seems to be a small playable niche in the retail market for hip multi-brand retailers like Pac-Sun, Urban Outfitters, and Buckle. While Pac-Sun has been battered YTD, URBN and BKE are shining thanks to some of the best SSS and EPS surprises in the sector.
And......
