  • Why I bought CONN March 13, 2010

    As I mentioned in my last post about CONN, I believed that CONN would renegotiate its line of credit to give them a little more breathing space against chargeoffs. That renegotiation was announced on March 5th and the stock is up about 30% since then. I can't take credit for predicting the details or the timing, but considering CONN's ample asset cushion and steps they're taking to tighten credit standards and incorporate third party financing, I was pretty much sure it was going to happen.

  • Why to buy CONN February 17, 2010

    I have been requested by a member to explain my rationale for Conn's, and given the horrendous drop it took on February 9th I can't say I'm surprised.

    Conn's is in the happy situation described by Ben Graham of being a net-net; its current assets minus its total liabilities exceed its market cap by a considerable margin; that was true when I bought it and is definitely more true now; the net current assets are about twice the current market cap.
