Disruptive Game-Changers

Selects stocks of companies with game-changing technologies, products, services or marketing strategies, with confirmation via management assessment, valuation and technical analysis checks.
I start by looking for design or technology driven companies that have a disruptive technology or game-changing new product or service platform. I then look for evidence of management's ability to monetize the innovation with consistent earnings growth. Buy and sell decisions are then confirmed by a combination of fundamental and technical analysis. I will sometimes move in and out of the same growth stock based on valuation models.
I scout for new products, technologies and service offerings using a variety of sources including the Wall Street Journal, Investor's Business Daily, Business Week, USA Today, design and technology blogs, popular technology web sites, design magazines and technical journals. Every week I update a proprietary database that tracks over 80 variables for each position on my watch list and track the positions held daily. A deep dive into the fundamentals and technical analysis of each stock on the watch list informs my buy and sell decisions.
This long-only model will typically hold between 10-15 positions. Weekly in depth reviews are conducted to rebalance positions based on current valuations and the potential for highest returns. The model uses only individual stocks and may overweight higher conviction positions. The model may buy ADRs. Market capitalization is not a factor. Expected turnover is approximately 50% annually.
Positions will be closed for a variety of reasons, including changes in future growth prospects of the company, changes in company direction or changes in the business environment in which the company operates. Positions will be closed when the rate of growth fails to meet expectations, or if the stock price has moved such that valuation is no longer attractive.
