  • A Higher Risk Environment June 13, 2010

    Market weakness early last week finally caused one of my longer-term trend-following indicators to flip to the bearish side.  All is not lost, though, because several other of my trend indicators are hanging on by the skin of their teeth and are still bullish.  Substantial strength in the near term will be needed to keep them positive and that seems unlikely to me.  So, at the current time, I am shifting the longer term outlook from bullish to neutral.

  • Disappointing Market Action June 06, 2010

    I've been hoping that the market could stabilize and get back on track for the continuation of the bull market.  But the weakness has been ongoing and pervasive.  And, for the most part, my sentiment indicators are not showing the kind of improvement I had hoped for.  This chart of the equity only put/call ratio has reatreated back to bearish levels in the last two weeks in spite of the market weakness.  Complacency is not a good thing and my sentiment indicators remain classified as bearish.

  • Watching With Trepidation May 31, 2010

    The market was actually little changed last week but the big question for me is whether or not any of my longer-term trend following indicators will turn from bullish to bearish.  These indicators don't attempt to identify bottoms or tops but, rather, they identify trends.  They all continue to show that the trend is still bullish but they are all extremely close to flipping to the bearish side.  I think we'll get an answer over the next few weeks but we definitely need to see some market......
