A Long Road Ahead November 04, 2007
While I plan to stay with my Citigroup holding for the long term, it will likely be a long road to recovery in the value of this stock. Today's resignation of Chuck Prince is of course important news. More important is the possibility of an additional $8 - 11 Billion write down due to subprime exposure. As I was reading my previous rationale for owning this stock, I was struck by my comment that Citi's exposure to the subprime mess was limited. It is clear that I had no idea what I was......

Alcoa Reports October 10, 2007
Alcoa reported earnings on October 9 after the market close of .63 per share. As Alcoa stated that the business environment was tougher in the 3rd Quarter due to among other factors the weak dollar, higher energy, costs, the Jamaica facility being closed due to a hurricane, and higher costs for raw materials. The weakness was offset by continued strong demand for China. Alcoa is in the midst of trying to stream line its business to concentrate on the production of aluminum. Over the next year......

A Very Risky Stock August 04, 2007
Excluding charges, GM said its operating profit was $1.4 billion, or $2.48 a share, up from $1.1 billion, $2.03 a share. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had expected an operating profit of $1.13 a share. GM reported automotive revenue at $45.9 billion during the 2nd Quarter, up from $44.9 billion a year ago. General Motors is the most speculative stock in my current portfolio. While General Motors beat the estimates of the street for the 2nd Quarter, this is a turnaround situation that......
