John Linnemeier Profile Picture Individual Investor

Opportunistic and Adventurous

Typically small- to mid-cap stocks with good fundamentals that have shown momentum. I believe that the world's greatest stock opportunities are in high-tech and Asian ADRs (when interest rates are stable or dropping or there's a big sell-off). I'm also interested in beaten-down stocks.
Long-only. No leverage. Emphasis on cutting losses early and preserving capital. Typical holding time of 3 months, though I like to let the winners run.
I keep in contact with various friends in technical fields to keep my eye on not just what is cutting edge, but what is cutting edge and profitable. I read quarterly reports religiously. Cash flow impresses me more than "earnings."

I travel a great deal and am always on the look-out for new trends and interesting companies.
Typically 8 to 10 stocks. I'd rather concentrate on my best ideas and ruthlessly cut losses short.
I like to choose stocks with relatively smooth charts, so I'm not stopped out of good stocks unnecessarily. A correction of 10 to 15 percent, depending on the stock's historical volatility, will normally get me out.
Sometimes there is as much art as science in these things, but I have a strong inclination to avoid emotion and not violate predetermined strategy.
