GLD September 27, 2007
I just bought GLD after some heavy losses in NEM. GLD is an ETF that tracks gold directly. It is immune to individual company operating issues. GLD makes up roughly half of my portfolio. Gold is a safe haven for investors who fear inflation. With the FOMC cutting rates, inflation is a concern. If they cut in October, gold will mose likely reach its record highs.

Gold is often used as an inflation hedge. When the FOMC is cutting rates, it is inflationary. Unfortunately, we are in a time where growth in the U.S. is slowing and the Fed needed to keep growth positive (no stagflation). Newmont Mining is poised to gain 10% over the next month. I will hold NEM until I get either a 10% return or 10/24/07 (the day before AAPL reports earnings - I think there will be a nice return on reporting day).
