Dumping TDAmeritrade for Interactive Brokers April 22, 2008
I am not referring to TDAmeritrade and Interactive Brokers stocks, but using them as trading platforms. I am currently a TDAmeritrade customer, and have been for 12 years (started at Datek, which was acquired by Ameritrade). However, I've had enough, so I'm switching over to Interactive Brokers.
As I switch over, I'll be selling an unusual amount out of my stocks in my TDAmeritrade account, which is connected to this Covestor tracking system. Many of my sales will be offset by purchases on......

What January Giveth, February Taketh March 02, 2008
I will start my second monthly investment newsletter by eating a healthy dose of crow. The financial and consumer stocks that treated me so well in January, allowing me to significantly outperform the indexes, finally capitulated - and then some - causing me to underperform in February. I am now down for the year, and there’s neither fun nor pride to be had in that. The only good thing I can say is that I’m still beating the S&P 500 by over 4% year to date, and the Nasdaq by over 9%. The details......

There's a good reason why private equity investors talk more about EV/EBITDA (Enterprise Value / Earnings Before Interest Taxes Depreciation & Amortization). It takes both earnings and the balance sheet into account, as you should too.
Let's use a simple example. Imagine two almost identical companies. Both have......

Another Inflation Play February 13, 2008
I tend to agree with Jim Rogers: The US Government is lying to us about the true level of inflation. Why would they do such a thing, and how would they do it?
The "why" is obvious. If consumer inflation in 2007 was reported to be 7%, do you think the Treasury Dept could get away with selling 10 Year T-Bills today at 3.73%? Adjusting for inflation, that would mean bond holders would be getting paid NEGATIVE 3.27%. Boy, you'd think if that were true then investors who's primary interest was......
