Personal Track Record Blog - Eric Zupancic

  • Patience is a virtue August 28, 2009

I got a bit carried away the past few days and made some really poor choices. I got impatient when I wasn't seeing any stocks worth jumping on. Instead, I saw stocks that actually seemed to be near their peaks and I assumed they would continue upward. I ended up being wrong, twice. I'll take a few days off so I can collect some thoughts and avoid trading on emotion (which is precisely what I did after the first bad trade). I was down on myself about it at first, but I realize now that losses......

  • My least favorite holding... May 16, 2009

I actually purchased this quite a while ago after reading something on a blog (Motley Fool, perhaps). I regret not doing more research on it before buying. It's not that I think it's a bad company... in fact, I think it's probably a pretty good buy. I bought in at a pretty terrible time though, right around its peak. I've definitely learned from the mistake and am glad it happened early on in my investing career. I'd actually recommend buying it now for someone who isn't already holding.

  • Not a gamble May 16, 2009

Here's another one that's just everywhere... P&G has its hand in so much and in so many countries. Currently selling at a discount, in my opinion. I don't think it'll necessarily be great for long term growth, but with the way the economy is right now I think it'll definitely make some people some nice profits. I probably got in on it at the wrong time, but I don't think I'll end up losing money on it.

While Apple might have a decent footing in this industry, Microsoft dominates the arena. They've got so many divisions and branches that you can find their products just about anywhere. Tons of cash, tons of customers, and a great track record are reasons to own this stock.

  • Big Oil, Big Money May 16, 2009

Say what you will about big oil... they make a lot of people very wealthy. I'm not sure that they're all that ethical, but we love our oil and cars in this country, so someone has to do the dirty work. I do wish they'd put a little more effort into alternative energy... it's no mystery that we're going to run out of this stuff one day. On the bright side, I think that's a bit down the road, so for now I'm long on this company.

  • Sold in more than 200 countries May 16, 2009

I think of all the large brands, this is the most recognizable one around. It's EVERYWHERE you look. My reason for holding this stock? The company's not going anywhere anytime soon. A solid history of returns and dividends keep people interested. Think about the last time you had a coke or a coke product...

  • Great company May 16, 2009

2008 was a bad year for banks. Several of them tumbled, and then went on to completely fail. Jamie Dimon really seems to have the right idea though... they've not only managed to make it through all the mess, but they continue to make smart moves to better position themselves in such a tough situation. Here's an interview with Charlie Rose which I quite like:

  • Fantastic value May 16, 2009

Extremely under-valued in my opinion. Somewhat volatile right now which is making it fun to buy and sell for some short term profits. I really see this one taking off in the long run though. The types of things they're working on are really incredible.

  • Sticking to your beliefs May 16, 2009

This fund purchases only dividend-paying companies, which are expected to have more stable stock prices. It follows Islamic investing practices, which has actually helped it through some of the turmoil encountered during 2008. Consistent returns are one of the main reasons for holding this.

  • That's gold! May 16, 2009

Gold always seems like a safe bet, right? I've never been big on commodity type investments, but I think this one is quite undervalued in the long run. For right now, I don't think it can sustain its upward movement so I'm looking for it to drop back to about $1.50-1.70...

  • Pink is a great color May 16, 2009

I love this company. You can ask anyone, from any demographic, and they'll more than likely know at least one of the brands this company owns. I think this is a great long term buy, but with the way the retail market is now (and will be in future months), I think we'll see several good entry and exit points for short term trading. And the dividends? WOW.
