ORCL - my first stock May 27, 2008
ORCL was my first stock purchase about eight years ago. It seemed like a great play in software, and Iike Larry Ellison's kill-or-be-killed attittude (I enjoy his sailing endeavors too). As soon as I bought it, the share price fell quite a bit. So I bought more. A year later, I made a lot of money on this stock, enough to sell some and pay for my honeymoon.
I still have quite a few shares, at a price 2.5 times what I paid for it, and out of nostalgia, it will be tough to get me to ever sell......

Why QTWW? May 27, 2008
Purely a speculative play I made 2 years ago from a Business Week article. Alternative energy needs seem to be in strong demand, and Quantum could become utilized in the automotive market.
This stock was beat down since I bought it, and I was getting down on my decision (especially when I found out they own a limousine company - what the #%$*). Instead of buying more at 50 cents, I held on. I am now turning a hefty profit, and wish I bought more at 50 cents.
I don't know when to sell, but......

O Canada! May 27, 2008
The canadian dollar is getting stronger, and the country seems to be a safe bet in terms of international holdings. There is no political/military strife like in many other developing countries, yet I read that Canada is put in the same risk bucket as them, keeping prices relatively down.
I purchased Suncor (SU) and Teck Cominco (TCK) early in 2008. I've been very happy with these decisions so far. Oil companies are making profit, and I think the Oil Sands, as expensive as it is to extract......

Buffet on Railroads May 27, 2008
I chased Buffet on my railroad purchases. I purhased BNI early last year. I also purchase UNP as it seemed like good diversification within the industry.
I like railroads because they are needed to transport imports, exports, and much of our grains (think corn for ethanol). Also, as fuel prices continue to soar, I expect a shift from over-the-road trailers to the rail system, which is much more fuel efficient.
